Christopher Gonzales was named director of global trust investments at LyondellBasell Industries, spokesman George Smalley said.
Mr. Smalley declined to comment on whether the position is new or whether Mr. Gonzales replaced someone in the role.
Mr. Gonzales is responsible for overseeing the company's defined benefit, defined contribution and other benefit plans.
As of Dec. 31, the company had about $2 billion in U.S. and non-U.S. pension assets, according to its most recent 10-K filing.
Also as of Dec. 31, the company had about $1.4 billion in defined contribution assets, according to its most recent Form 5500 filing.
Mr. Gonzales previously served as chief investment officer of the $3.8 billion Houston Firefighters' Relief & Retirement Fund. Linda P. Calnan, senior investment officer at the pension fund, is currently filling in as interim CIO. A search for a permanent CIO is underway.
