James Maloney was appointed acting chief investment officer of the $4 billion Chicago Policemen’s Annuity & Benefit Fund, Mr. Maloney said Tuesday.
Mr. Maloney, chairman of the pension fund’s investment committee, replaces Samuel Kunz. Mr. Kunz is joining the investment office of the University of California, Oakland, in the new position of managing director, asset allocation and investment strategy. His last day at Chicago Policemen’s Annuity & Benefit Fund was Monday.
Mr. Maloney’s appointment was approved by the pension fund’s investment committee at its Monday meeting.
Plans on hiring a permanent CIO have not been finalized, Mr. Maloney said.
Mr. Maloney is also a lieutenant with the Chicago Police Department.
