Emory University endowment, Atlanta, returned 19.1% in the year ended June 30, said university spokeswoman Elaine Justice.
The growth of the $6.7 billion endowment was driven by investment returns exceeding $1 billion and inflows from gifts of about $60 million.
The return exceeded the average return of college and university endowments of 15.8%, according to preliminary data from the NACUBO-Commonfund Study of Endowments released earlier this week. While the university's fiscal year ends Aug. 31, the university reported June 30 data to fall in line with that study's data.
