Chris Concannon was named president of BATS Global Markets, effective Dec. 15.
He will report to Joe Ratterman, BATS CEO, who also had been president since the resignation of William O’Brien on July 22.
Mr. Concannon said in a telephone interview that he’s looking forward to helping complete the integration of stock exchange operator Direct Edge, expected to be in early 2015. BATS’ acquisition of Direct Edge closed Jan. 31; Mr. O’Brien had been CEO at Direct Edge.
Expanding BATS’ European and options businesses will also be a focus in his new job, Mr. Concannon said.
“The challenge for us (at BATS) is to promote investor confidence, that our markets are healthy and efficient,” he said.
Mr. Concannon was president and chief operating officer of electronic trading firm Virtu Financial. Officials at Virtu could not be reached for details on his replacement. Mr. Concannon said he resigned from Virtu on Tuesday and that staff at the company were handling his previous duties.
