Edward F. Ewald was named interim president of the University of Illinois Foundation, Urbana, spokeswoman Jessica Hampson said.
Mr. Ewald replaces Thomas J. Farrell, who left the university to become senior vice president and chief advancement officer at the University of Rochester, Ms. Hampson said.
Mr. Ewald will continue in his role as senior vice president for development.
Executive search firm Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates was hired to conduct a search for a permanent president, Ms. Hampson said.
The foundation has more than $1.5 billion in endowment assets.
