The Cambridge Associates U.S. Private Equity index returned 3.1% in the first quarter of 2014, the firm said Wednesday. U.S. private equity outperformed its public markets counterpart (as measured by the Wilshire 5000 index) by 163 basis points.
Over 10 years, the private equity index posted annualized returns of 14%, 7.88 percentage points higher than the Wilshire 5000. And in the last 25 years, private equity’s 13.7% annualized return outpaced U.S. public markets by 570 basis points.
