Byun Jai Yung was appointed chief representative of Northern Trust’s newly opened representative office in Seoul.
The position is new. Mr. Byun, a more than 30-year veteran of the Bank of Korea, had been working as an external consultant to Northern Trust since June 2013, according to an e-mail from William Mak, head of Asia-Pacific for Northern Trust.
Mr. Mak said Mr. Byun will be “responsible for enhancing our clients’ experience and increasing brand awareness” for both Northern Trust’s asset servicing and asset management businesses in Korea.
The firm’s new office in Seoul will allow Northern Trust to better pursue what it sees as significant opportunities to offer solutions to “sophisticated institutional investors in the country,” said Mr. Mak.
