Fred Berry joined The Pensions Regulator as lead investment consultant, said a spokeswoman for the U.K.'s pensions watchdog.
The position is new.
Mr. Berry will support the agency in its activities across defined benefit and defined contribution plans.
“This appointment marks our intention to significantly deepen our expertise in the sphere of investment, both for DB and DC schemes,” said Stephen Soper, interim CEO at the regulator, in a news release.
The spokeswoman said the regulator plans to recruit a small, specialist team focused on investment matters. Mr. Berry will lead this team.
Mr. Berry said in the same news release that he will be working to raise the profile of the regulator in the investment industry.
Mr. Berry was previously a principal in the investments business at Mercer. A spokeswoman for Mercer confirmed Mr. Berry left the firm 12 months ago.
