Andrew C. Stephens is stepping down as portfolio manager on Artisan Partners Asset Management’s growth team.
Portfolio decision-making will now fall on lead portfolio managers James D. Hamel, Matthew H. Kamm and Craigh A. Cepukenas, said Bob Batchelor, spokesman for Artisan Partners. All three are also managing directors.
Mr. Stephens will remain a managing director on the team, which manages the Artisan Global opportunities, U.S. midcap growth and U.S. small-cap growth strategies and corresponding mutual funds, covering just less than $24 billion.
Mr. Stephens will remain involved in areas such as research and talent development, Mr. Batchelor said. He will “not be involved in direct investing decisions.”
“For years now we’ve worked hard to develop our investment talent. The team is executing well, the leadership has broadened meaningfully. … Given this depth, now is the right time for me to take a less hands-on role, yet still serve as a dedicated resource to the team,” said Mr. Stephens in a news release from Artisan Partners.
Mr. Stephens could not be reached for additional comment on his role.
Jason L. White will remain associate portfolio manager.
