Christopher J. Kirkpatrick was named secretary of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Mr. Kirkpatrick oversees the CFTC’s secretariat, which is responsible for bringing issues to the commission for consideration.
He replaces Melissa Jurgens, who on Jan. 14 was named chief of the executive secretariat branch in the office of Executive Director Anthony Thompson. Her position was new, said a CFTC spokeswoman. Ms. Jurgens oversees the secretariat as well as other CFTC offices including records and proceedings.
Mr. Kirkpatrick was deputy secretary and became acting secretary upon Ms. Jurgens’ appointment. His previous position will not be filled, the spokeswoman said.
