Michael Hitchcock was named executive director of the $29.9 billion South Carolina Retirement System Investment Commission, Columbia, effective Sept. 8, said Danny Varat, spokesman for the investment commission.
Mr. Hitchcock will replace Sarah N. Corbett, who resigned earlier this month for “personal reasons,” primarily to spend more time with her young family, Edward N. Giobbe, chairman of the investment commission, told Pensions & Investments at the time.
Mr. Hitchcock is the commission's second executive director. The position was created as one of the first recommendations to be implemented from a fiduciary audit report from Funston Advisory Services.
Mr. Hitchcock has served as the chief counsel and assistant clerk of the South Carolina Senate since April 2001.
