Edouard Merette has been appointed managing director, Asia-Pacific for Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec, the Montreal-based money manager for provincial, municipal and other pension funds in Quebec as well as other provincial entities, announced Thursday.
It is a new position, spokesman Jean-Benoit Houde said in an e-mail. Mr. Merette will join Caisse on Oct. 1 and establish a new office in Singapore.
As of June 30, the manager oversaw total assets of C$214.7 billion (US$196.9 billion).
“With Mr. Merette’s vast experience and extensive network in Asia, La Caisse will be better positioned to identify the right partners and act on sound investment opportunities in these growth markets,” said Michael Sabia, president and CEO, in a news release.
Mr. Merette was CEO of Aon Hewitt Asia-Pacific. Stewart Fotheringham replaced Mr. Merette, spokeswoman MacKenzie Lucas said.
