Transaction volume on the alternative investments secondary markets was up 47% to $22 billion in the first half of this year compared with the first half of 2013, estimates secondary market brokerage firm Setter Capital.
The alternative investment transactions on the secondary market included $16 billion in private equity limited partnership interests and funds; real estate limited partnership interests of $3 billion; hedge fund limited partnership interests, $2.2 billion; and infrastructure limited partnership interests, $500 million.
The increase was attributed to new and incumbent buyers “who optimistically and aggressively put money to work” and a large number of sophisticated limited partners that made opportunistic sales on the secondary market that they had been contemplating for years, the Setter Capital Volume Report states.
