Ohio School Employees Retirement System, Columbus, returned a net 17.28% for the fiscal year ended June 30, surpassing the policy benchmark return by 171 basis points, said Tim Barbour, spokesman, in an e-mail.
The $12.7 billion pension fund’s best performing asset class was global equities, at 23.61%. The next top performers were global private equity, at 22.72%, and global real assets, at 14.62%.
Other asset class returns were: opportunistic, at 11.43%; multiasset strategies, 10.01%; and global fixed income, 6.23%.
The pension fund’s target allocations are: 45% global equity, 19% global fixed income, 13% multiasset strategies, 12% global real assets, 10% global private equity and 1% short-term investments.
As of May 31, the actual allocation was: 50% global equity, 15.3% global fixed income, 12.8% multi-asset strategies, 10.5% global real assets, 9.1% global private equity, 2% short-term investments and 0.3% opportunistic. Actual allocation numbers for June 30 were not available.
