Preqin released data on Tuesday showing which private equity managers have most consistently outperformed their peers.
Four buyout firms -- Sweden-based Altor, Rhone Capital, Wynnchurch Capital Partners and Trilantic Capital Partners -- ranked highest comparing the number of funds in the top quartile to the number of overall funds with a quartile ranking.
Preqin examines both multiple and internal rates of return and assigns a score based on top quartiles (top quartile is one, second quartile is two, etc.), and an average ranking is calculated from there.
The second-tier firms included Morgan Stanley Global Private Equity and Netherlands-based Waterland, both with 80% of funds in the top quartile.
