The aggregate deficit of U.K. defined benefit occupational pension funds in the Pension Protection Fund's 7800 index decreased 8% in June to £109 billion ($186.6 billion).
Total liabilities were £1.276 trillion as of June 30, a decrease of 1% compared with May 31, while total assets decreased slightly, by 0.3% to £1.167 trillion.
The funding ratio rose to 91.5% in June from 90.8% at the end of May.
According to the PPF 7800 index's latest update, 70% of the 6,150 U.K. pension funds covered had a deficit as of June 30, compared with 70.7% at the end of May. The number of funds with a surplus increased to 30%, from 29.3% at the end of May.
