Benze Lam joined Northern Trust Asset Management in Hong Kong as head of the firm's institutional relationship and sales efforts for the greater China region, said Bo Kratz, managing director for asset management in the Asia-Pacific region.
The position is new. Mr. Lam was executive director and head of sales for China offshore at UBS Global Asset Management. A spokesman for UBS Global Asset Management said his firm will look to fill that position by the end of the year.
Mr. Kratz said in an interview that Mr. Lam's experience serving a broad range of institutional investors in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau will support the recent growth of Northern Trust's business in that region.
While declining to provide specific details on the firm's greater China assets under management, Mr. Kratz said the region accounts “for a significant part of our Asia-Pacific business,” with growing demand there for the firm's “engineered equity” — or smart beta — capabilities.
