June Kim was named global equity director for the California State Teachers' Retirement System, West Sacramento, said a news release from the $184.8 billion pension fund.
The global equity asset class is the largest for the pension fund and totals $105.8 billion. Ms. Kim will lead a staff of 12 and succeeds Trish Taniguchi, who held the position from 2010 until she retired in December 2012. David Murphy, portfolio manager, had been serving as acting director.
Ms. Kim spent the last 7½ years as principal investment officer for global equities at the $47 billion Los Angeles County Employees' Retirement Association, Pasadena, Calif.
LACERA CEO Gregg Rademacher did not return phone calls as to whether a search is being done to replace Ms. Kim.
CalSTRS spokesman Ricardo Duran did not respond to phone calls and e-mails seeking additional comment.
