Marc Katz, director, investment administration, at the $46.6 billion New York City Teachers' Retirement System, died of a heart attack on June 19. He was 65.
Mr. Katz oversaw $12 billion in variable annuity investments for the retirement system's 403(b) and 401(a) plans, spokesman Matthew Laskowski said.
Mr. Katz had been at the retirement system since 2004 and was named director, investment administration, in 2008, Mr. Laskowski said. Before joining NYCTRS, Mr. Katz was senior vice president with Independence Investments and previously held the same title with TCW Group. He also had been director-pension investments and benefits finance at General Signal Corp., which was acquired by SPX Corp. in 1998.
Mr. Katz also was president of Pension Group East, an organization of investment professionals at pension funds, endowments and foundations.
Funeral services were held June 20. Memorials are requested in Mr. Katz's honor to Tomchei Shabbos of Queens, 129-01 Metropolitan Ave., Kew Gardens, NY 11415; and Chai Lifeline, 161 W. 30th St., New York, NY 10001.
Mr. Laskowski said no decisions have been made as to Mr. Katz's replacement at NYCTRS.
