CalPERS reported Monday the fund's investments in the state of California rose 5.6% in 2013 to $20.8 billion - up from $19.7 billion a year earlier.
Investments in California accounted for 8.1% of the fund's $257 billion portfolio as of June 30, 2013.
By asset class, the real estate portfolio had the largest percentage of total dollars invested in the state. $4.9 billion - or 22% of the total real estate portfolio - was invested in California, up from 20.5% of the total portfolio in 2012.
In the $31.4 billion private equity portfolio, 11.3% was invested in the state, while 7.6% of its public equity portfolio was invested in California companies.
