More than 400 people will descend on Scotland's countryside on June 21 to complete the 2014 Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge, a 55-mile run and cycle event for charity.
The challenge is the main fundraising event for the staff-run Martin Currie Charitable Foundation, Edinburgh. The foundation has raised more than £2.5 million ($4.2 million) since its launch in 2006.
This year's main charity partners are WaterAid, which provides safe water to those in areas with poor sanitation; Over the Wall, a charity providing therapeutic recreation camps for children with life-shortening illnesses; and Barnardo's, a charity that provides counseling and adoption services, vocational training and disability-inclusion groups support to children and young people.
Those up to the challenge will complete a 16-mile run or walk, starting in Drymen, Scotland, followed by a 39-mile cycle. The finish line is in Kenmore, where food, a band and general partying will be waiting.
