Christof Ruhl was appointed global head of research at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, said a spokesman for the sovereign wealth fund.
The position is new, and Mr. Ruhl will join the fund in Abu Dhabi in July.
Mr. Ruhl will establish and then manage a new, independent global research function, which will be located within ADIA's evaluation and follow-up division. This research unit will provide proprietary fundamental and macroeconomic research to senior executives at the sovereign wealth fund.
Mr. Ruhl will also further strengthen ADIA's relationship with global research entities and institutions. He will report to Khaleefa Al Qamzi, director of the evaluation and follow-up division.
Mr. Ruhl was group chief economist and vice president at BP. He has also worked as the World Bank's chief economist in Russia and Brazil, and at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Spokesmen for BP did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
“(Mr. Ruhl) brings with him a sophisticated understanding of global economics and policymaking, and his background and expertise will be critical to the successful establishment of a global research function within ADIA,” Mr. Al Qamzi said in a news release. “The invaluable relationships and solid academic and corporate reputation he has built throughout his career will assist with assembling a global community of experts in economic research and analysis.”
