Keith Ambachtsheer was named director emeritus of the Rotman International Centre for Pensions Management.
Mr. Ambachtsheer was executive director of the institute at the University of Toronto since it was created in 2005. Rob Bauer, finance professor and institutional investments chairman at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, was named to replace him.
In an interview, Mr. Ambachtsheer said Mr. Bauer would be handling the management and administrative duties he'd handled since the center was created in 2005. Mr. Ambachtsheer will continue editing the Rotman International Journal of Pension Management and will be involved with educational programs at the center, among other things.
The center “will keep going, probably forever,” Mr. Ambachtsheer said. He also said he'd continue to assist in other projects, such as his recent involvement on a panel to create a proposed supplemental pension fund for Ontario.
Mr. Ambachtsheer said he won't stop working on pension research as the issue of retirement security has grown. “Pension funds used to be a backwater for research,” he said. “Now it's front and center.”
