Dore Schwinden was named executive director at the Montana Public Employees' Retirement Administration, Helena, according to a news release on MPERA's website.
Mr. Schwinden was selected from a pool of three finalists at a special board meeting on April 4.
He started on Monday, replacing Roxanne Minnehan, who is retiring. Ms. Minnehan will work with Mr. Schwinden over the next month, according to a post on MPERA's website.
Mr. Schwinden was deputy commissioner at the Montana Department of Labor and Industry.
MPERA administers eight retirement systems with a combined $5.9 billion in assets. The investments are handled by the Montana Board of Investments, Helena.
Officials at the pension fund declined to provide additional information.
