Lesley Alexander resigned as CEO of HSBC Bank Pension Trust (U.K.) Ltd., said a spokesman for HSBC.
The spokesman said any replacement for Ms. Alexander, who has not yet left, would be for the pension plan's trustee board to decide, and not HSBC.
Ms. Alexander joined the firm in December 2010, after roles at several pension funds including EMI Group Ltd.'s pension plans and Motorola Inc.'s European retirement plans.
Two sources familiar with the situation said they were not aware of any new role for Ms. Alexander at this time.
Further details could not be learned by press time. Ms. Alexander could not be reached for comment by press time. The most recent figures available show the firm's defined benefit and defined contribution plans have a combined $32.6 billion of assets.
