Andrew Grimes was appointed a senior investment specialist at Winton Capital Management, where he will head up the firm's first office in Australia, said a spokesman for the hedge fund.
The new office opened in Sydney on Monday.
Mr. Grimes was previously an institutional investment specialist at Platinum Asset Management. Spokesmen at Platinum did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
“By opening a local office, (Winton) is demonstrating a long-term commitment to offer dedicated service to our Australian investors,” Mr. Grimes said in a news release.
The $25 billion manager is also opening offices in New York and Tokyo this year.
