As the Labor Department seeks public comment on better ways to offer clearer information about DC plan fees, the Center for American Progress has a suggestion: Provide a label like the one shown above. The center, in a report on 401(k) fees, described it as a cross between a cigarette pack warning and a nutrition label. “A label is most effective for people who are less educated about retirement plans,” said David Madland, the center's managing director of economic policy.
