The New York State Teachers' Retirement System's private equity portfolio posted 10-year annualized returns of 13.8% through March 31, 140 basis points higher than its benchmark (S&P 500 plus 5%) over the same period. The fund had $7.8 billion invested in the asset class as of March 31, up $200 million from the prior quarter.
According to NYSTRS, the private equity program generated a net internal rate of return of 11.63% from its inception through Dec. 31, 2013.
