Cynthia Sweeney Barnes was appointed head of global segments and Europe, the Middle East and Africa, at BNP Paribas Investment Partners, a spokeswoman said.
It is a new position. Ms. Barnes will lead the EMEA country teams and four client-segment teams, covering corporations, endowments, insurance, pension funds and official institutions. She will start May 13 and will be based in London.
The appointment is part of the €479 billion ($621.9 billion) money manager's plans to grow its institutional business.
Ms. Barnes was most recently managing director and global head of sovereigns and supranationals at HSBC Global Asset Management, a role she left in February 2012.
