Chuck Lawless, senior managing director at Mesirow Financial, will be honored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals as the “2014 Outstanding Volunteer” at its 38th annual Philanthropy Awards Luncheon in May. The award is in recognition of Mr. Lawless' work with the New Trier Tyro Society Foundation, which he co-founded in 2007.
Founded to provide four-year, structured business internships to graduates from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill., who come from less affluent families, the foundation recently expanded its mission to include internships for graduates from Gary Comer College Prep School in Chicago and cadets from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, Mr. Lawless' alma mater, located in Charleston.
“I'm honored to be receiving this award for my charity work,” Mr. Lawless said in a statement. “I learned at a very young age the importance of giving back to the community from a teacher who believed in me and coached me. It gives me a thrill to be able to help the kids from my high school and college and to share what community involvement is all about.”
