Shinichi Yamamoto will become the new president of PIMCO's Japan unit, according to an e-mail from the company.
Mr. Yamamoto is replacing Makoto Takano, who will step down June 20 after more than 12 years with the company.
Mr. Yamamoto has headed Pacific Investment Management Co.'s Japan retail business since 2006; he joined the firm in 2002 from Goldman Sachs Asset Management.
Akinori Matsui, the acting vice president of PIMCO Japan, will become chairman, the PIMCO Japan e-mail statement said.
