Illinois State Universities Retirement System, Champaign, issued an RFP for consulting firms to review its business continuity plan and business impact analysis, as well as assisting in drafting an RFP for disaster recovery consulting services.
“We review and update our plan every year,” but it has been more than 10 years “since we took a step back and did a comprehensive review of our (disaster recovery and business continuity) requirements,” William E. Mabe, executive director of SURS, said in an e-mail. “We want to explore different possibilities for speedier recovery if needed.”
SURS oversees $15.9 billion in defined benefit assets and $1.4 billion in 401(a) assets.
The RFP is available on SURS' website. Responses are due March 21. SURS plans to hire a firm March 31.
SURS has not set a time frame for issuing the RFP for disaster recovery services. It “depends on when the first part (of the project) is completed, which is currently unknown,” Mr. Mabe said.
Sungard Data System's availability services business currently provides disaster recovery services. It may rebid, Mr. Mabe said.
“We have been fortunate to have never needed DR services,” Mr. Mabe said.
SURS plans to hire one firm in the search. The firm contracted for the review and drafting won't be allowed to bid on the disaster recovery services RFP, according to the SURS guidelines for the search.
