The Illinois Supreme Court ruled Monday that four lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of Illinois' recent pension reform law should be consolidated.
The order moves the lawsuit by the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, previously filed on Dec. 27 in Cook County, to Sangamon County.
Illinois State Employees Association Retirees, Retired State Employees Association of Illinois and We Are One Illinois coalition previously filed lawsuits in Sangamon County.
The order consolidates all four cases with the circuit court of Sangamon County.
The consolidated lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of reforms passed by the General Assembly on Dec. 3, aimed at saving $160 billion over the next 30 years, arguing the law violates the Illinois Constitution, which states pension benefits “shall not be diminished or impaired.”
