Ariani Rustam joined Northern Trust as chief representative of its new office in Malaysia, confirmed a spokeswoman for the firm.
The representative office in Kuala Lumpur increases Northern's Asia-Pacific footprint and will support institutional clients as well as developing the firm's business in Malaysia and the region.
Ms. Rustam most recently was manager of the external fund management division at Bank Negara Malaysia. In that role, she diversified the bank reserves investments into new asset classes.
Ms. Rustam will develop client relationships out of the Malaysia office with support from the firm's client servicing teams in Singapore, the spokeswoman said in an e-mail.
“Malaysia is a dynamic country with a growing economy and increasing global investment, presenting an opportunity for growth in the services that we offer to large, sophisticated institutional investors,” said William L. Morrison, president and chief operating officer of Northern Trust, in a news release.
