New Mexico Educational Retirement Board, Santa Fe, approved hiring Segal for actuarial audit services, Rick Scroggins, deputy director for the $10.7 billion pension fund, said in an e-mail.
Segal will conduct a comprehensive audit of the June 30 actuarial valuation that was performed by the board's consulting actuary, Gabriel Roeder Smith.
An RFP was issued in November.
Separately, the board at its Feb. 14 meeting extended the contracts of three fixed-income managers until Aug. 31. The managers are Western Asset Management, which manages $320 million; Pyramis Global Advisors, which runs $440 million; and Neuberger Berman, which manages $387 million, said Bob Jacksha, chief investment officer, said in an e-mail.
