New York State Common Retirement Fund, Albany, posted an estimated investment return of 5.14% for the three months ended Dec. 31, confirmed a spokesman for state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, the sole trustee of the pension fund.
The pension fund's assets totaled $173.2 billion for the quarter ended Dec. 31, the third quarter of the pension fund's fiscal year. Assets rose 8% from the quarter ended Sept. 30, when the investment return was 4.61%.
The results are estimates because they are unaudited. The pension fund publishes audited figures only for its fiscal-year report. The pension fund also doesn't disclose asset-class performance on a quarterly basis.
New York State Common's asset allocation as of Dec. 31 was 37.6% domestic equities; 27.6% cash, bonds and mortgages; 17.1% international equities; 7.8% private equity; 6.6% real estate; 3.1% absolute return; and 0.2% opportunistic strategy alternatives.
