Chris Gower joined First State Investments in the newly created role of head of Europe, the Middle East and Africa consultant relationships, a firm spokesman confirmed.
Mr. Gower will help increase the €124 billion ($169.5 billion) money manager's EMEA business and will improve coordination and structure for consultant relationships across the region, according to a First State news release.
He previously was head of European consultant relations at HSBC Global Asset Management. A spokesman for HSBC was not available to comment at press time.
First State also announced it is to open an office in the Middle East this year, in Dubai. As part of the move the firm has relocated Ali Karmali, head of Middle East and Africa, to Dubai from London.
Messrs. Gower and Karmali report to Kanesh Lakhani, head of distribution for EMEA and global consultant relationships.
