According to DJX VentureSource, U.S. companies raised $8.9 billion from 901 venture capital deals in the fourth quarter of 2013. On a year-over-year basis, the number of deals and amount of capital raised were up 3% and 7%, respectively, for the quarter.
Cloud storage firm Dropbox led all U.S. venture-backed deals during the quarter, raising $250 million in its third round of financing – which valued the firm at $10 billion.
Pinterest raised the second-most during the quarter – collecting $225 million in its fifth round of financing in October. That gave the online pinboard company a valuation of $3.8 billion.
Rounding out the top five financings for the quarter were Nest Labs ($150 million), MongoDB ($150 million) and Juno Therapeutics ($145 million).
