California State Teachers' Retirement System, West Sacramento, returned 19.08% for calendar year 2013, surpassing its policy benchmark by 18 basis points, said spokesman Ricardo Duran.
Global equity was the top performer with a 28.27% return, followed by private equity, 19.23%; real estate, 14.3%; inflation-sensitive, 2.56%; absolute return, 0.16%; and fixed income, -0.47%.
The $176.4 billion pension fund ended the year with an actual asset allocation of 56.6% global equity, 15.5% fixed income, 12.3% real estate, 12.1% private equity, 0.7% absolute return, 0.5% inflation sensitive and the rest in cash.
