Illinois State Universities Retirement System, Champaign, issued an RFP for legal services to help with investments — including limited partnerships in private equity, real estate, hedge funds, infrastructure and other alternative strategies — as well as custodial and securities lending issues.
The law firm also would help with legislative and tax-related matters.
SURS will consider hiring more than one firm, Daniel L. Allen, chief investment officer, said in an e-mail. The fund will consider a firm that “can provide services in any or all of the three categories of legal services,” the RFP noted.
SURS is undertaking the search because the contract of Katten Muchin Rosenman, incumbent legal counsel, expires June 30. It can rebid.
The RFP is available from SURS' website. Proposals are due Feb. 7. The board expects to make a preliminary decision March 17 and award a contract on March 31.
SURS has $16 billion in defined benefit assets and $1.3 billion in 401(a) assets.
