Richard Davies was named senior vice president and co-head of North American institutional at AllianceBernstein, said spokesman Jonathan Freedman.
It is a new position. He will lead the money manager’s defined contribution business and partner with Joel Stevens, the other co-head, on institutional business.
“We’re (adding a co-head) because we see DC as critical to the growth of our institutional business,” Mr. Freedman said.
Mr. Davies reports to Robert Keith, executive managing director and head of institutional and retail client services, sales and marketing.
Mr. Davies previously worked at AllianceBernstein for 16 years before joining Russell Investments in 2011 as managing director, head of institutional defined contribution. He was replaced at Russell by Josh Cohen.
AllianceBernstein has about $32 billion in defined contribution assets under management.
