Jonathan Grabel was named chief investment officer of the $13.9 billion New Mexico Public Employees Retirement Association, Santa Fe, confirmed Wayne Propst, executive director.
Mr. Grabel replaces Joelle Mevi, who resigned in August. Interim CIO Julian Baca will resume his previous duties as deputy CIO when Mr. Grabel joins the pension fund on Jan. 6.
Mr. Grabel is CIO for the Montgomery County Board of Education, Rockville, Md., overseeing the board's $1.2 billion defined benefit plan. Sue DeGraba, chief financial officer at the board of education, said the specifics of a search for his replacement have yet to be determined.
