Hawaii Employees' Retirement System, Honolulu, returned 5.3% for the quarter ended Sept. 30, surpassing the policy benchmark of 5.2%, confirmed Vijoy Chattergy, chief investment officer.
International equity was the strongest performer for the quarter, returning 10.3%, followed by domestic equity, 8.1%. Private equity returned 4%; covered calls, 1.8%; fixed income, 0.9%; real return, 0.3%; and real estate, -2.9%. September values were not available for all alternatives investments.
For the year ended Sept. 30, the $12.9 billion pension fund returned 12.6%, 30 basis points over the benchmark.
