Allan Martin, partner at NEPC, was named by San Jose (Calif.) Police & Fire Department Retirement Plan to serve as interim chief investment officer through the end of April, confirmed Ron Kumar, investment officer for the pension fund.
NEPC is the current consultant for the $3 billion pension fund, which has been without a CIO since Carmen Racy-Choy resigned in July 2012. The pension fund is looking to hire a permanent CIO during Mr. Martin's six-month contract, Mr. Kumar said. Mr. Martin will take over the lead role in investments, which was being handled by the staff.
Mr. Martin will serve as interim CIO for only the police and fire plan. The permanent CIO also will serve the $2 billion San Jose Federated City Employees Retirement System, which currently uses Meketa Investment Group as investment consultant.
Executive search firm Alliance Resource Consulting is assisting in the CIO search. The job posting is available on Alliance's website. The pension funds are also looking for an investment officer to assist the CIO. The job positing is also on Alliance's website.
