Hedge Fund Research released its September performance report on Monday. Its Fund Weighted Composite index rose 1.6% during the month, ending the first three quarters of the year up 5.58%. By strategy, equity hedge funds are up 9.2%, followed by event-driven funds with an 8.9% return. The Wilshire 5000 and MSCI ACWI IMI ex U.S. indexes were up 19.9% and 11.1%, respectively, while the Barclays U.S. Aggregate was down 1.9% over the same period. Macro funds continue to struggle in a world where capital markets continue to be driven by central bank intervention. HFR's macro index is down 2.1% through the first nine months of the year.
