George L. Cooke was named chairman of the OMERS Administration Corp. board, which oversees investment strategy and administration of the C$60.8 billion (US$59.1 billion) Ontario Municipal Employees’ Retirement System, Toronto, according to a news release.
Mr. Cooke replaces Rick Miller, who will remain on the 14-member board until Dec. 31. Mr. Miller is a captain in the Windsor (Ontario) Fire and Rescue Services and is a participant in OMERS, according to the pension fund’s website.
Mr. Cooke is the first independent chairman of the corporation board. He retired as president and CEO of The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Co. in 2012.
