Larry D. Zimpleman, chairman, president and CEO of the Principal Financial Group, was named winner of the 2013 Lillywhite Award, which recognizes lifetime contributions to economic security.
The award is sponsored by the Employee Benefit Research Institute. EBRI President and CEO Dallas Salisbury will present the award at Pensions & Investments' West Coast Defined Contribution Conference in San Francisco on Oct. 29.
In an interview, Mr. Zimpleman said he was most proud of lobbying for passage of the Pension Protection Act. “I would say the most positive and beneficial change I helped with is the passage by Congress of the Pension Protection Act in 2006.” He said the law “made the system work well for everyone.”
Earlier, in a statement, he said, “I'm humbled to receive this award.”
EBRI honored Mr. Zimpleman for being “a long-standing champion of savings and financial literacy who continues to lead both his company and this industry by his example.”
Mr. Zimpleman joined Principal in 1971 as an actuarial intern and has worked there for 40 years.
The Lillywhite award is named for Ray Lillywhite, a pioneer in the pension investment field who spent more than 55 years in the industry.
