Illinois Teachers' Retirement System, Springfield, returned 13.2%, gross of fees, for the fiscal year ended June 30, surpassing the policy benchmark of 12.5%, confirmed spokesman David Urbanek.
Domestic equity was the top performer with a 23.7% return, followed by private equity, 14.9%; international equity, 13.6%; real estate, 13.2%; absolute return, 12.9%; fixed income, 6.9%; real return, 0.6%.
It is the seventh time in the last 10 years that the $39.4 billion pension fund exceeded its long-term investment assumption. It returned an annualized 12.6% for the three years ended June 30, 4.7% for five years, 7.7% for 10 years and 9% for 30 years.
