A recent Aon Hewitt report highlights the gap between men and women when it comes to saving for retirement. An analysis of 140 defined contribution plans reveals that the average balance for women was $59,300, compared to $100,000 for men. Among income levels, the disparity is the greatest among those earning over $100,000 - average plan balances for men ($240,040) were 14.2% higher than their female counterparts ($210,240). While participation rates in all plans analyzed were the same, men saved an average of 7.6% of pay, compared to 6.9% among women.
