Kevin Landry, senior adviser and former CEO and chairman of TA Associates, died Thursday morning of complications from lung cancer, said Philip Nunes, TA Associates spokesman, in an e-mail. He was 69.
Mr. Landry retired last year, stepping down as CEO and chairman of TA Associates after a 45-year career at the firm. He started at the firm in 1968, TA Associates' second hire.
Mr. Landry was “instrumental in TA's evolution from a regional venture capital investor to a leading global growth private equity firm,” according to a memorial statement on the firm's website.
“Kevin was a uniquely talented, multidimensional figure. He was business-smart, street-smart, witty, gregarious, direct to the point of being blunt, and utterly honest, fair and objective, without pretense or phoniness,” the tribute states.
TA Associates partners recently made a $10 million gift for cancer research to Harvard University to endow the Landry Cancer Biology Consortium and the Landry Cancer Research fellowships.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 15 at Memorial Church at Harvard University.
